See me.
Not my tics.

  • So thankful to Anna!

My son who is 11 years old, has Tourette’s syndrome and Autism. His Tic severity has been a roller coaster for him and us to manage. His experience with CBIT has helped him understand a little more about his tics and how to help manage them. He loved working with Anna and looked forward to seeing her every week! I know he will continue using what he learned in the years to come.

What is CBIT?

Comprehensive Behavioral Intervention for Tics (CBIT) is widely considered the gold standard, evidence-based treatment for tic disorders. It is a first-line therapy to equip you with practical skills and strategies to effectively manage tics. CBIT teaches tic management by first increasing your awareness of the feelings and sensations that occur before the tics. Next, you are trained on a “competing response,” which is an action that counteracts the tic. CBIT also focuses on the importance of relaxation training, stress management, and how to use these strategies in various environments and situations. Although CBIT is not a cure for tic disorders, it can greatly decrease the frequency and intensity of tics. The main goal is to help you do what

What is Occupational Therapy?

Occupational therapy is a client-centered therapy that seeks to promote engagement and fulfillment in all of life’s daily activities. These activities are also known as occupations. Occupational therapy fosters a holistic approach that focuses on the person as a unique individual, and examines how the interplay between the person, their environment, and their valued occupations balance one another to promote a life well-lived. The desired outcome, and
the ultimate goal, is to equip the person with a sense of autonomy, resiliency, and a solid skill set to manage and exert strength over their tics.

OT, combined with CBIT, seeks to capitalize on a client’s strengths instead of focusing on deficits. It modifies the environment, decreasing the discrepancies between a person’s abilities and the environment’s demands. It focuses on identifying the activities, or occupations that matter most to each client— helping them participate fully while reducing the frequency and intensity of tics.

Minimize tics, maximize life.
